“Parallel Perspectives” Spotlight Exhibit at Kurbatoff Gallery, Vancouver, BC
In my recent work, I resist the constraint of a single style, allowing the subject matter of the landscape to dictate the technique; fluidly shifting between bold, experimental intimacy, and quiet atmospheric nostalgia. Alternating between applying paint with a palette knife and brush, I balance movement across the canvas with the softness of brushwork creating a vast soft sky, contrasting against the hard edge knife work depicting the texture of the earth. In one perspective, paintings are up close and personal, in the other the view is far and vast. Changing up my perspective keeps me engaged and challenged, and keeps my work immediate and intentional.
